FRom outdated to modern transitional

When our clients purchased their home in the 90’s, it was the kickoff to a bustling life raising two children, working full-time and trying to balance the demands of both. Two decades dashed by and suddenly their home’s interior felt tired, dingy and dated. On the renovation checklist: kitchen, family room, entry, dining room, and two full bathrooms. Our clients’ heads spun with the amount of work to be done and they didn’t have the capacity to handle it all.

But we did.

The kitchen renovation was tailored to the family’s wish list, including a beverage bar and built-in pantry. The modern, three-dimensional white tile back splash keeps everything bright and interesting. We incorporated a new architectural detail in the living room-wood beams on the vaulted ceiling alongside the iron wheel chandelier. Custom window treatments (hello, remote control Roman shades) and the mix of leather and velvet upholstered furniture makes a cushy combination for family lounging.

Our clients weren’t ready to part with their dining set or sideboard, and jumped at our recommendation to freshly paint the pieces and upgrade the hardware for a whole new look. Custom draperies in a linen blend are polished without pretense. Knotty, wide-plank engineered hardwood flooring throughout the main level help the spaces flow organically.

To create a luxurious, classic primary bathroom, we enveloped the vanity wall, shower walls and ceiling in white marble, a material that transcends time. The secondary bathroom, punctuated with youthful pops of color, was designed with their teenage girls in mind. In order to unite the bathrooms, we used the same white marble on the bathtub walls. But, to create uniqueness, the smaller- scale tile was laid in an intricate chevron pattern.

After two years and a million thoughtful design decisions later, our clients once again treasure time spent in their re-imagined home.
