Our Lexington, MA clients wished for a primary bedroom with modern-day comforts and simultaneously honored their home’s 1880’s roots. In addition, they wanted to refresh the focal point of the main level; an oval-shaped sunroom boasting floor-to-ceiling curved walls of windows. The Bloomfield home was a privilege to renovate right from the start!
The primary bedroom, with stunning bones and original bay windows, had a tired, unimpressive fireplace. Its non-working function was upstaged by a tired, green glass mosaic surround. We refreshed it with a beautifully-veined white marble, painted black interior and a collection of candles for a romantic glow. Custom window treatments with Schumacher fabric, a proper window seat and a coordinating upholstered bed add a soothing softness to the space. Tailored touches including a cut-to-fit rug, beach-themed art (a nod to their home on Martha’s Vineyard) and a pair of caned sitting chairs helped to create a stately and luxurious retreat.
Since the sunroom is a special, but highly-trafficked space in a pet-friendly home, it required a thoughtful design anchored in comfort and functionality. To highlight the curved architecture, we painted the board and batten trim and used a Schumacher sisal wallcovering on the internal panels. Accent chairs made with custom fabric complement the ever-changing backyard landscape while the cut-to-fit area rug hugs the arched room. A generous, clean-lined sofa provides an inviting place to rest while a coco bead chandelier adds another piece of eye candy to this reborn 1880’s queen.
With our clients’ trust and a commitment to its historic soul, we re-imagined this home to become a true, modern-day haven.
With creativity, collaboration, and fun as the soul of our process, we aim for excellence and unapologetically sweat the big and small stuff alike.
